Nokia’s highly popular mobile game ‘Snake’ is all set for a comeback that too in a brand new ‘avatar.’

According to the Guardian, Taneli Armanto, who created the original version for Nokia, has teamed up with Finnish game studio Rumilus Design to roll out a sequel to the game dubbed Snake Rewind. The game will be released for iOS, Android, Windows Phone devices on May 14.

The Finnish developer first brought Snake to Nokia 6110 in the late 1997. Since then, it was featured in over 400 million Nokia phones and is one of the most popular games in history.

“The game can be immediately picked up and enjoyed by everyone, while offering many fun and challenging goals and discoveries for a long-lasting experience.”

Snake Rewind, unlike the original 1997 game, will let users rewind the snake even after crashing to continue the game. The gaming app will feature many different types of special fruit which users will be able to purchase through a fruit store. Powerups additions such as Fruit Magnet, Trailblazer and Score Multiplier have been introduced.

Snake Rewind will feature 10 levels with their unique music and visuals which can be unlocked by completing all the challenging missions. Furthermore, users will also have the option to compete with their friends and other players as well on the high score lists.

Although details on how the game will be purchased haven’t been announced, the developers hint that the game will be free to play, but will include in-app purchases for upgrades.

The developers have also put up a YouTube video to offer a sneak peak into the upcoming Snake Rewind game.
