Facebook to update video feature with view counter
Facebook has just updated its video features to add a new counter that will list the total number of times a specific video has been watched.
The company claims that the soon-to-be-rolled-out feature will allow both those who have posted the video as well as those who are viewing it to see how many people have viewed a particular clip. The view counts will be displayed next to the ‘like’ and ‘comment’ area.
Fidji Simo, project management director, video at Facebook, in a blog post said that video is one of the most engaging and immersive ways to tell a story. Whether it is breaking news, a baby’s first steps, or rising to a friend’s challenge for charity, it is a remarkable storytelling medium. With this new update, people will be able to see how many views a video on Facebook has received, Simo said.
Facebook is also reportedly testing another feature on mobile that will suggest related videos after users finish watching a clip.
Simo said that the social website has exceeded 1 billion video views per day in June this year with a 50 percent growth in video views from May. Furthermore, the company claimed that 65 percent of the total video views are on mobile devices as compared to YouTube’s 40 percent mobile video views.
