Toshiba Chromebook 2 & Toshiba Encore Mini going on sale next month
Toshiba has expanded its Chromebook line-up with 2 new models and has taken the wraps off a tablet, Toshiba Encore Mini. All the three devices are expected to make its way to the IFA 2014 at Berlin.
The 2 new models of Toshiba Chromebook 2, successor of the original Toshiba Chromebook, enables working offline and engaging in entertainment activities while staying disconnected to the internet. The laptops are optimized for entertainment too this time, considering its ability to work offline.
It comes with a 13.3 inch full HD IPS display stuffed in a 12-inch chassis offering a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. Both models pack the latest Intel Bay Trail processors and will be available for $250 and $330.
The lower priced model features 2GB of RAM with a TN panel while the other model comes with a 4GB RAM and a screen resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels. Both models have built-in storage of 16GB and come with 100GB of free storage space on Google Drive.
In partnership with Skullcandy, the audio performance is improved by incorporating the speakers at the right and left sides of the keyboard which were placed at the bottom of the chassis in the previous model. The battery life for the higher priced model is said to be 9 hours whereas the one with a lower resolution boasts 11.5 hours of battery life.
The tablet, Toshiba Encore Mini sports a 7.1-inch screen, and runs Windows 8.1. It comes with a one-year subscription to Microsoft Office cloud and Office 365 Personal and a free terabyte of OneDrive storage. It also sports a 2-megapixel rear camera and a webcam at the front for video calls. Aggressively priced at $120, the tablet will be available alongside the Chromebooks in the retail market starting October 5.
