Sky: More than 50 percent of our TV subscribers now connected to broadband
Sky revealed that more than half of of its 10.6 million strong TV customer base has their Sky+HD boxes connected to broadband thereby gaining access to the full range of on-demand services being offered.
“Our job is to offer customers the best possible TV experience, making sure that they can watch what they want, when they want, wherever they want,” said Sky CEO Jeremy Darroch while speaking at EY Sustaining Digital Leadership conference in London.
“We aim to put Sky at the heart of the ‘digitally connected household’ – to meet customers’ growing desire to consume content on their terms.”
The surge in connected households is a direct result of Sky’s big push to drive uptake and usage of connected TV service last year.
If we look at numbers, according to Sky, in just one year the connected households more than doubled to 5.4 million households roughly translating into 56,000 new households each week.
Further, in the most recent quarter, on-demand content accounted for more than 5 per cent of viewing in connected homes and when it comes to on-demand downloads, they have more than tripled in the last year.
